There's something about the moment when the groom sees his bride for the first time. Sometimes you see the pure joy, or delight, others you see the humility and know this man is going to treasure his bride. No matter what the expression, it's one of my favorites of the big day and I am fortunate enough to have the best seat in the house as a photographer. I love that Josh is not afraid to share some emotion. That says a lot about who he will be as a husband (and father).

Close Encounters

WOW! What a weekend! Saturday's weather was perfect. What a great way to celebrate a new family. Dana and Josh have quite a story and have waited much longer than they wanted to have their special day. You could really see the love all day! It went far beyond the bride and groom, but both families and all the friends really do have some big hearts. Dana and her sister are only 18 months apart and they were married 8 months (to the day) after one another. Let me just say that they were lots of laughs, but not short of all the tears.

I'm working my way through the THOUSANDS of photos we took. First I'm working on clearing out things not in focus and eyes closed, etc etc, etc. No worries though, we take multiple pictures so that despite deleting some photos, you still get almost the exact same thing - but the best one of the group. As I'm working through, I can hardly fight back the tears (again). Dana's mom and sister I think lost some at the salon. Dana wanted everything a surprise and none of the guys saw her until she walked down the aisle. With the exception of her dad of course. Everyone else cleared out and just Dana's family shared a few moments before the ceremony. As he entered the doorway, his eyes filled up. At that point, everyone in the room was crying. He walked forward, embraced her, then started singing! I'm still surprised there was no make-up redone after those 5 minutes.

All that to say, this is what I love about photographing! You really do have a front row seat. The intimacy shared between a bride and groom, extended family, and friends is really something special. Everyone has a story. I love being a part of such a special day. It's really the best seat in the house to see all the details come together and capture each moment as it unfolds.

Here are just a few photos that caught my eye. I'm not even 10% in yet, but wanted to get something up so you can taste what is to come.

If you ever struggle with getting adults to laugh, just teach a little kid how to say "Boogers Boogers" instead of cheese. If that doesn't work, you can always make the men uncomfortable by telling them to get nice and close to each other. At some point, they will break out in full laughter.

Not the best morning for photos, as it started in the 50's. Thankfully, everyone was a good sport and we captured quite a few photos over 2 hours. Here are just a few that caught my eye at first glance. Be sure to check back soon for the full slideshow.

Celebrating the holidays with family is really what makes the season. Those that have lost someone close to them may realize that when it is too late. Being with those you love is one of those special times you always want to remember. The past few months have allowed me to work with such families. Here's a few from today's afternoon session. Such a fun time to watch these two laugh together today! I love seeing the look in a couple's eyes when they look at each other. We headed out to the park this afternoon and spotted a field on the way. We saw at least two others pull over to take advantage, so we did too. (The other images are in the process of being uploaded, but here's a few to keep you waiting until tomorrow.)

85 degrees with less than a week until Thanksgiving. Not my idea of fall, but better than snow. Luckily it cooled down enough to capture some wonderful shots this evening. We saw several other families with photographers, so we had to be patient (and creative) with some locations. Editing (and of course previews) go much faster when you have eyes like these. Seriously, these took me less than 10 minutes to edit, and the majority of the time was just adding the watermark. WOWzers! Congratulations Anna and class of 2012! OK, well I haven't really gone to the metal side- YET...but I am in love with metallics. We needed some more art for the wall and wanted to display some of our favorite photos (and friends). We decided to branch out a a little...and we are SOOOOO glad we did! Introducing - Print wraps! A photo printed on a variety of papers (metallic paper seen below), then laminated so you don't get greasy finger prints. Mounted and wrapped around a core. Then fixed on a 1.5 inch back to stick off the wall. These come in a variety of sizes and are really a unique way to showcase your favorite photos. There is just something so sweet about a newborn. Even when they start to cry, or scream for that matter, it still grabs ahold of your heart. We were on "baby watch" for their first born in case anything happened. One false alarm a few weeks ago, but then they ended up not needing us when family could come in and help them prepare for the arrival of Annabelle. Their first born enjoyed lifting up his shirt to show me where baby used to be. He also had much more fun with my props then Annabelle. Here's a few photos from the first few days of her life. (It's crazy to me to think "she's so small" when I arrive and then when I was leaving, have a feeling of "wow...she was way too big to fit in someone's belly.")

We saw their incredible hearts and grew closer with the entire family day by day. The Lord has...and continues...to do great things through them. Timing

As I work with clients, some have many questions. One question that occurs most often - how long until I will have the photos?

As you shop around, this can be an important question as you select a photographer, especially if you are on a time crunch (ie. Christmas Cards). It would not be abnormal to take 30 days for processing a portrait session or up to 12 weeks for wedding photos. However, I've never come close to reaching that timeline. Why? I'm excited too!

You are posing and you don't see the photos pop up on the preview screen. You probably go through asking "Did I look ok? Were my eyes closed? Is my hair sticking up?" I see things in real time and the preview and then I begin saying "Oh, How cute! I hope that face came out on camera. I think they are going to LOVE that one!"

So, when I get home, I get right to it, if time allows. This isn't a full time job for me right now, and I typically spend 50-60 hours working full time teaching. I'm a little DIYer around the house too, so I'm always busy. BUT, I love seeing your photos and want to get them in your hand as soon as possible. So, with that said, I tell clients to expect take 2-3 weeks to get your portraits back, or 4-6 weeks back for weddings. However, I've never taken more than two weeks on any session. Several clients have had portraits ready the very next day. In summary, I get the photos back to you as soon as I can...truly! The better the lighting and location, the less time I spend editing. That gives you photos faster. Of course you can always ask for some special editing if you would like, but I do try to offer the best from my artistic eye and give you a variety to see some similar shots with different finishes.

So, with that being said...here are some more shots from today's (yes we took these between 8-9AM today) session. The rest (yes the fully edited photos) are being uploaded as we speak. Check back tomorrow for a full preview.

I love when photos come out of the camera like this! Most of my time at the computer is spent narrowing down the images, not editing. The better quality I can get through the camera, the less I do with the computer. As much as I am not a morning person, you cannot beat the first light. One of the best families I have ever known! Mike and I lived with this family during our first year of marriage. Although it was not our first choice of how to spend our first year as newlyweds - we are INCREDIBLY thankful for this loving family! Despite sharing a bathroom with 4 kids (3 teenage GIRLS), Mike and I survived and found out what it was like to have both brothers and sisters. ( I grew up with two sisters and Mike had one brother.) We have learned a ton from them and really are so thankful for living in such an amazing community! (Wendy's cooking was enough reason to stay for 6 months!) So, here's a quick preview. BTW, if you need any maintenance around your house, office, car, etc...please give them a call.

I so love watching this kid take in the world around him! It's nearly impossible for me to keep my eyes off his as he has no fear. So many things I would walk by and not think twice about. But to this kid, a new place, new things, new life. I think he stayed by the water fountain the longest. His mom was not kidding when she said he loves water! Grateful for "faith like a child" that reminds me of the simplicity of the Gospel.

I was so excited about the photos from yesterday, I spent the evening sifting through. Well, between both myself and Mike, we cut it down to just over 100 photos. We tried to cut out more, but just couldn't. So, Sonjia lucks out and just gets them all. We don't like limiting photos as sometimes there are just good ones and you can't cut them out. So, here's a slideshow of the shoot and a little piece of some of the adventures. This will show a little of what makes Sonjia unique. No worries, you don't have to climb trees, but just be yourself!

A Little Math Lesson

A little tidbit, I was a missionary. Yes, that's right - my job was to share the Good News with others. As Christians, we believe we should always do that, but it's a little different when you do it as a job. As part of that, we raised support. There's a love/hate relationship with that. There are even days I miss it. Yes, I miss it. There are also days that I pray that God would never, ever, make me do that again. As much as I truly believe GOD was the provider, I did find some helpful tools. One of those, is about to benefit YOU! Realizing how much was left, you could break down for an individual and say "I need a thousand dollars a month. That's simply 10 people at a $100 dollars." That became much more manageable. Well, today, I'm going to do JUST that.

Our lovely church home, Orlando Grace Church, is in the process of building a building. We've rented another facility for years and years. The Lord has provided for our family in many ways, and now He is moving us into a building with our name on it. One thing we are trusting God for, is to raise the funds necessary as to avoid debt as much as possible. As Mike and I have discussed this exciting time, we want to be able to provide some more funds to make this happen.

LOVE this family! I cannot believe how a little one change so quickly. I saw their newest edition two weeks ago. She slept the whole time, but nothing else. Of course she was adorable too! Today I had the great pleasure of spending some time with the family for some photos. It took two rounds, as any new mom knows, you can't control things as much as you like. No worries! She let me know when she had enough pictures and needed some more beauty sleep. :) At one point, I'm pretty sure we thought she was going to start crawling away. I absolutely LOVE seeing intimate moments like these! For some reason, I ruled out not seeing Mike before the ceremony. I wish I would have seriously considered it. I know there's not a one size fits all, but as a now wife and photographer, I can't get enough of the "first look" of the bride and groom. Plus, it gives you that much more time to enjoy your day, family, friends, and photos! As a photographer, I'm allowed special access to see these moments first hand. Aubrey couldn't run fast enough to Laura. At one point, Laura jumped up and down saying "we're getting married!" Don't worry - there are LOTS more to come, but I know they (or at least her mom) is dying to see some more!

After a few moments of the two of them enjoying each other, Aubrey stepped back and took a good long look at his bride. He noticed even the small details...all those buttons! (Don't worry, it was really a zipper.)

We just got back from a wonderful wedding in GA this past weekend. As much as I love this time of year, it's unpredictable. So, with a beautiful day on Friday, frigid rain came Saturday. the not so good part about fall

I love the fall! Texas and Florida have no idea what fall or autumn really mean. If you have ever lived outside of those two states, you know the true beauty of leaves changing colors, jumping in a pile of leaves, pumpkin baked goods, and REAL football weather. It provides a great backdrop for those holiday cards and sometimes perfect weather. Last Saturday, was less than ideal. 44 degrees and wet! It was only misting when we arrived, but it only let up for minutes at a time. These two families were great sports! With three little kids, I wasn't sure what to expect, but I think we made out with some great photos. Thanks for being such great sports! (Most of you wouldn't even be able to tell how uncomfortable it was.)

These three girls are ADORABLE! Although I don't have any kids yet, these three make me wonder why. LOVE them!

Rain Rain...

Had a great session with Aubrey and Laura! We've been trying to get something done for a weeks, and finally were able to set things up with everyone's schedule. Of course it had to rain! They were such troopers. We missed some great light, but still got some great shots. Laura smiles more than anyone I have ever met and together, you can't help but giggle.

I am so excited to be working on a new flushmount album! These make wonderful coffee table books to show off your special day and ordering smaller ones make for great gifts, especially for parents. Summer weddings are perfect to make an album just in time for Christmas. On another note, I took some photos of the Royal Banquet and Conference Center across from Meredith College. They liked my photos and will be using one for advertising in Southern Bride and Groom. WOW! I had no idea how much I would enjoy this session. Ok, so it was nearly 100 degrees and apparently I am highly allergic to something out there, but I am very happy with this evening's session. First, I had the pleasure of working with an incredible family and one of the sweetest girls I have ever met. Then, you add in this wonderful horse, their story, and perfect sunlight...and you get the shots below. I spent about 5 seconds on touching these up. As much as I still think about horseback riding along a beach, horses just don't really like me for some reason. However, seeing a wild mustang tamed with her owner on lots of land, can take your breath away and you find yourself dreaming you had a horse of your own. Just when you think it can't get any better, you see this wonderful girl get lost riding bareback over the hills....

...this is just a small glimpse. I hate making decisions and I have too many good photos to flip through. Thanks so much for putting up with the heat and inviting us out!

WOW! This weather is amazing and I am simply dying to try out some new lenses, lighting, and locations. So, I'm again offering a special, where YOU get to benefit!

I'm looking for any models that are looking for a photo shoot. I'm hoping to expand my portfolio, so if it is something I haven't done, your sitting fee is FREE and all you have to do is pay for the prints and/or copyrights. (Don't worry, they're very reasonable and you won't get better printing anywhere else.) So, here are some specifics that I'm looking for, but if you have another idea, just let me know and I'll see what I can do for you; Pets, Maternity, Newborns, Fashion, etc. First come, first serve!

An Epiphany

This is my new favorite thing, now if I can just convince Mike that I need one. What a genius idea? I feel like any female photographer, has to understand the need for this. I'm just hoping this really does hold enough to make it worthwhile. The only other thing, would be finding a contest giving one of these away. I'm almost done with photography purchases for awhile, just a new bag and a body. Then I'll have to hold out for a year or so.

Daylight Savings

I absolutely love the extra day hours. However, for photography, it means getting up earlier or staying out later to take advantage of the best light. The evenings are actually better now, but OH, how I love to sleep in!

I can feel the summer months approaching quickly. I'm excited for some rest and some time to process the past year and what's next. Meanwhile, the next two months are pretty busy. I'm looking forward to an engagement session this weekend and a family session next week. I'm also helping with some fundraising ideas with the school I teach at using photography and I'm happy to serve alongside an incredible team next weekend to honor Lisa Ham and those who have battled cancer. I'll be posting photos as I finish.

I feel like we have been living under the famous "monocloud" of England the past several months. I have finally seen the sun again and I am so thankful for the warm weather. With the spring, always comes new love and life. Congratulations to all of the newly engaged couples and families that have or are expecting a new bundle of joy!

I had the great privilege of working with this family this weekend for some family and portrait shots. Let me first say that this is an AMAZING family that the Lord has blessed us with during this season of our lives. Then let me continue to say that their little girl is adorable! It's the height of holiday season...Halloween, Thanksgiving, and before you know it, CHRISTMAS. By the time I'm ready to send out Christmas cards, it's already Thanksgiving. I then realize I need to get a photo shoot in and address all those envelopes. I'm really lucky if I get them out in time for Christmas. Does anyone else have this problem?

I had a great time in Florida. I was able to take some pictures for Debbie and found a great spot in Winter Park.
